WENDY KIMANI AND GILAD DROP USIENDE VIDEO

By  |

The singing partnership between Wendy and Gilad goes back to 2011, during the days of performing cover songs while both were actively performing with the Calabash Band in Nairobi clubs. Their chemistry is simply natural.

The two artists first collaborated on Unajua, which became the biggest song for both artists as it rose to top music charts on several leading radio stations in Kenya.

Unajua is currently one of the few Kenyan music videos that have surpassed 1 million views on YouTube. The pair teamed up once again to work on Usiende.

The soulful reggae single is mainly in English with only one Swahili word this time, which doubles as the title of the song.

Released in October to select radio stations before finally being availed for download on all platforms, Usiende was written by both artists and recorded at MG studios in March 2016, when Wendy came to Kenya for the Gilad Live Music for Empowerment Concert.

After the success of Unajua, one would expect the two artists to be under great pressure to record a bigger song, but their effortless delivery on Usiende further goes to show the powerful chemistry between the two artists.
For the music video, Wendy and Gilad chose Amsterdam as the ideal location for several reasons, convenience playing a big role since Wendy and her husband live in the Netherlands, but primarily because of the the beauty and scenic locations provided by the Dutch city.

Additionally, this was the opportunity to work with international directors from different parts of the world, which both artists saw as an opportunity to strengthen the positioning of the Kenyan music industry on the international scene.

The music video was filmed in Armsterdam by Parkistani and Belgiun directors Iraj Hussain and Michael Antoine.
