LUPITA STUNS ON THE COVER OF PORTER MAGAZINE
Kenyan Hollywood actress Lupita Nyong’o is gracing the August issue of Porter magazine. The magazine is part of luxury clothing shop Net-a-Porter and will be available for purchase from August 10.
Lupita posted the covers on social media writing, “Sometimes, opening up can be so easy.” In the issue, she talks about how she has struggled to break into the acting industry because of her kinky hair.
“My hair is something that, historically, has been shunned, I mean, how often do you hear ‘You can’t get a job with hair like that’?” she tells Porter magazine.
She adds, “Natural, African, kinky hair – it’s often been painted as uncivilised or wild. Being featured on the cover of a magazine fulfills me as it is an opportunity to show other dark, kinky-haired people, and particularly our children, that they are beautiful just the way they are.”
The Oscar-winning actress also shares the sexual harassment she experienced under now fallen Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Lupita says her mother gave her the courage to come forward about the issue.
Lupita Nyong’o who is daughter to Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o reveals that she’s the only one in her family who was born in Mexico which made her feel a special connection to the place.
“My whole outlook and sense of self is Kenyan, but my mom made a point of letting me know that I was born someplace else, so I always felt an affinity, a need to get to know that place. I was the only one in my family born there. It was the thing that made me special,” she states in the magazine.
Lupita has covered several international magazines including Elle and Grazia. Her role in Black Panther made her even a more formidable actress in the global arena. She was also the first African to sign an advertising contract with French beauty company Lancome.Views: 1390
