WABAIYA KARIUKI CROWNED MISS UNIVERSE KENYA

Wabaiya Kariuki a 22 year old fourth year Actuarial Science student at Daystar University is the new Miss Universe Kenya at the finals held at Sankara, Nairobi.

She beat 15 contestants to emerge the winner.  Michelle Opiyo and Elisie Stephenes were crowned the first and second runner up respectively.

Waibaiya was a vocalist for a band called Ujazi, which does African Christian Music. However, I suffered a vocal injury in 2017 which significantly reduced my vocal abilities.

She is currently working at a start-up insurance agency, Mule Insurance Agency limited. The high fashion and commercial model has worked with brands like Java house and Airtel and fashion designers such as, Pam Oloo, Kasikana from Tanzania, Yvonne Afrostreet, Koki Designs among others.

In my free time I teach violin to children at a start-up music school called Capital Zeeki. The most influential person in my life is my late mother who was a Singer, Fashion Designer, Model and a completely lovable person,” she said.

The judges were Chris Bitti, Deliah Ipupa, Nelvin Chuma, Cate Odera and Anyango Mpinga.
