POPE FRANCIS THREE DAY VISIT IN PICTURES
The Pope’s first papal trip to Africa started in on Wednesday when he landed at 4:30pm at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport received by the President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta. The entourage headed to state house where the Pope received full honours of 21-gun salute and a guard of honour. After the State reception, the Pope held private talks with President Kenyatta before they were joined by Government officials for a bilateral meeting. Where he blessed Kenya in Kiswahili, “Mungu abariki Kenya.”
The second day, Pope Francis led a holy mass at the rained drenched University of Nairobi Graduation square. Where thousands of people who came from all corners of Kenya and other parts of the region: DR Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania and had camped the whole night just to get a glimpse of the Pope. He then left to St.Mary’s Lavington for a meeting with the church clergy. Later on the Pope went to UNEP-Gigiri where he addressed the officials and Environmentalists on issues affecting our Environment.
The third day he Francis’ visited St. Joseph’s parish in Kangemi where he was received by multitudes who lined up the roads to see him. The Pope reiterated his message of the need to ensure fair distribution of resources and strongly condemned land grabbing and denial of basic services to slum dwellers. He then headed to Safaricom Kasarani Stadium where President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret led government officials, Catholic Bishops and thousands of youth to a mugithi train before the pope’s arrival, his holiness then had a meeting with the youth, where he addressed corruption, which is rampant in Kenya “When we take a bribe and we put it in our pocket we destroy our hearts, our personality and our country. Corruption is not a path to life, it’s a path to death,” said the Pope. He later meet with the bishops and there after boarded a flight to neighboring Uganda, where he’ll kick off his visit at the state house with President Yoweri Museveni and he will head to the Central African Republic.
