I WAS MISTAKEN FOR A SHE AND LOCKED IN WOMEN’S CELL SAYS MAKE-UP ARTIST DENNIS KARURI
Celebrity make-up artist Dennis Karuri has confessed how cops mistook him for a ‘woman’ and locked him in a Women’s cell.
Karuri said the incident, which occurred last October left him a little bit ‘shaky.’ “This specific story did not happen long ago just recently. There was a show called fashion Fridays at Brew Bistro, it was really bomb because I was the make-up artist.
After I finished doing the models make up, I decided to do my make-up and I was looking beautiful. When the show ended, I decided to share a cub with my assistant make-up artist, the stylist and photographer.
They were going towards Embakasi while I was headed to town, I needed to drop my stuff at the shop. So, I alighted at Nyayo Stadium and requested for another Uber at around 10pm. A guy in plain clothes came and started cuffing guys, I was shocked, shortly the police car pulled over.”
Karuri and two other ladies were bundled in a police car and taken to Nyayo Stadium Police Station,
“When we arrived at the police station, they asked us for our ID’s but I didn’t have mine, only two people had, they thought I was a lady because I had made up face, I was taken to the ladies cell.
After a while, the ladies realised I was not a woman, they started acting weird but not in a bad way, they were laughing. One of the ladies requested to go the washroom, when the police came to take her, he found me fixing my make-up, he looked at me and I laughed, my deep voice alerted the cop, he asked me if I was a man or a woman, I said I am a man.
He called the other cops who came stared, I knew I was in trouble, I came clean and told them I’m a make-up artist but they had to move me from the women’s cell and took me to the men’s cell.
I pleaded with them to allow me to remove my make and they agreed. The moment I got there; I was scared. I have never been somewhere like that before, it was so dingy, smelling and cold.”
When one of the inmates asked where he came from, a street boy at the cell confirmed he was at the lady’s cell and was busted.
Karuri had to fake he had asthma and part with Sh500 to secure his freedom.
