DAD WAS AGAINST ME COMPETING FOR MISS WORLD KENYA-CECILIA MWANGI

By  |

Former Miss World Kenya 2005 Cecilia Mwangi says when she joined the modeling industry after high school, her father opposed her modeling career but her mom was supportive as long as her grades were good.

When I attempted to go for the pageant my dad was against it. I did it without his knowledge, he just saw me in the newspaper. But my mum had given me a green light, I was a first-year at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and as long as my grades were up, I was good.

My course was crazy, it was computer technology, I just had to juggle it which has helped me even now. I can multi task on so many other things. At that time there was so many misconceptions about modelling, I just worked on it and proved them wrong.

Right now, I am surviving on my career, what I did in campus, the pageant industry is really nice but it’s not sustainable and good like the likes of South Africa and Nigeria.”

Cecilia now works for the government at the Ministry of Industrialization as innovation ecosystem manager, “After practicing for 12 years, I decided we need to think on technology of the future which is in innovation.

I went to the innovation space, currently, I’m consulting for the Ministry of Industrialization as innovation ecosystem manager. It’s what I love doing, we are really trying to see how we can push entrepreneurs to digital space and link them to a company that needs these innovations.”
