CYNTHIA NYAMAI EXPLAINS WHY SHE WAS FIRED FROM HER JOB WITH THE UGANDAN GOVERNMENT AND BEING HOMELESS
Popular TV personality and PR Guru Cynthia Nyamai has opened up about her job with Ugandan government. Nyamai says her stay in the pearl of Africa was not glamorous but a journey of hardships.
“My time in Uganda was not easy and it ended very badly. I remember one time people back home decided to make me trend and they called me blood money because they were saying I was working for the Rwandan and Ugandan presidents.
Yet those two countries have some serious issues between them and to separate those issues is difficult because almost all Ugandan are Rwandese and vice versa. When the two presidents were having issues, somebody decides to tweet that which is a lie. I was working in Uganda in a security office, with the Ugandan police force.
My boss was sucked by the president and there were stories he might be leaning on the Rwandan side. I had a colleague of mine who was shot, people were fired and unfortunately, I was working in the office of Inspector General of Police (IGP). People were arrested but I was not. I was a difficult time; I would sleep fully clothed so that if they decide come for me, I would be well dressed and ready.
People were not happy that I was working there and especially with the police and I was a Kenyan. One day I was going to the supermarket then I found myself in the paper. I told a guard to buy it for me the unfortunate thing was most it was lies. I have never been shaken like that in my life, that everything can be taken away.
A lot time people didn’t want to be associated with me, for one year I stayed there I spend my time really praying and fasting. It was God who saved me and I now have a bigger purpose to serve people. After that I gave away my designer bags those things don’t move me now, I understand my hire purpose.
Now the potential leaders I work with we have to have a talk about God and where is their stand with him. I don’t judge but it’s important for me. My life is now fulfilled.
Cynthia says before working with police force, she was doing public relations (PR) and certain individuals wanted bribes which refused and ended up being homeless,
“One time when my boss was fired, they decided to stop paying for my house which the government was paying. By this time, it was three years I had spent my savings.
I was also paying for my mortgage in Kenya which was not paid for several months. I was thrown out of the house; I was struggling so much and I still had other bills to pay. I switched off my fridge because I didn’t have food, but it hardened me.”
