ERIC OMONDI ISSUES AN APOLOGY OVER DIRTY CONTENT AND PROMISES TO DO BETTER
Comedian Eric Omondi has issued an apology to the Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Dr. Ezekiel Mutua and the public over the dirty content seen on his show Wife Material.
In an online statement, Omondi said, “I have had a very long phone call with my very good friend Daktari Ezekiel Mutua and he is of the very strong opinion that #WifeMaterial does not have to be dirty to sell. I completely agree with him and I have sent him a personal apology. The intention has always been to entertain and not to offend and I’d like to apologise to anyone who was offended.
The whole idea behind #WifeMaterial is to bring East Africa and Africa together through Entertainment. The Vision is to take over Africa and the Dream is to lift the East African and Kenyan flags to the World and that requires a rigorous and vigorous creative process.
In order to compete Internationally we need to put our best feet forward. The creative process can be long and tedious and whenever a new idea is born it comes with a lot of teething problems. We promise to be better and do better.”
The board CEO acknowledged his apology, Mutua said, “We received an apology and request from Eric Omondi for an out of court settlement of the case against him, but apparently the explicit videos are still circulating on his social media platforms. The pornographic videos must be taken down by 8am Mon 15th March 2021 otherwise.
Eric has agreed to our conditions for an out of court settlement. He has agreed to take down all explicit content from his social media platforms. I have appointed a Mediation Committee led by Jalang’o, Churchill and other top artistes to meet the KFCB team and DCI on Monday.” Eric was arrested on March 11 for producing and distributing the show.
