SHAFFIE WERU AND DJ JOE MFALME APOLOGISE TO EUNICE WANGARI AND THE PUBLIC FOR VICTIM SHAMING
Radio personalities Shaffie Weru and DJ Joe Mfalme have put out personal statements on social media apologising for their insensitive comments on the radio. The Homeboyz Radio presenters were on the spot for victim shaming a gander violence survivor during their morning show, The Lift Off.
In a viral video, Shaffie Weru, Neville and DJ Joe Mfalme discuss an ordeal in which Eunice Wangari was thrown off the 12th floor of Ambank House by Moses Gatama after she met him for a date on September 13, 2020.
In his apology, Shaffie said, “My brothers and sisters, I take this opportunity to deeply apologize for the statements that I made on the Homeboyz Radio Breakfast Show on Wednesday, 24th Match 2021. I realize and accept that my statements about the unfortunate incident that happened to Eunice were very insensitive and hurtful and could be interpreted by some as encouraging the already ongoing and unacceptable culture of violence against women and girls.
I sincerely apologize to Eunice and her family and I deeply regret any ham that I have caused with my words. I, in no way, shape, or form support or tolerate any kind of violence. I am proud and loving father to my daughters and will not and cannot condone violence towards women. Once again my deepest and sincere apologies for the harm I caused.”
DJ Joe Mfalme also issued a similar apology, “To my dear fans, friends, family and fellow Kenyans. I take this opportunity to deeply apologize for the statements that I made on the Homeboyz Radio Breakfast Show on Wednesday, 24th Match 2021. I realize and accept that my statement about unfortunate incident that happened to Eunice totally wrong and could be interpreted by some as encouraging especially at a time when we need to stand up against any form of Gender Based Violence against women.
I would also like o take this opportunity to also sincerely apologize to Eunice, her family and anyone who has been a victim of Gender Based Violence for the harm that was caused by my words. I do not, have not and will never condone any form of violence against women and I will do my part to help put an end to it. I sincerely apologize for all the harm caused.”
