MOTHER’S DAY 2021: MIRACLES AFTER MISCARRIAGES
The pain of losing child is unbearable to many parents, some of them pick up the pieces and soldier on, while others blame themselves for the loss. Most people would rather not talk about suffering a miscarriage because of the stigma around pregnancy loss and infertility but a few celebrities have come out and shared their stories. Here is a list of celebrities who have suffered miscarriages but also welcomed beautiful babies.
Milly Chebby
In 2019, TV host Millicent Chebet, popularly known as Milly Chebby opened up about the pain of losing her unborn baby. According to Chebby, she started spotting on the seventh week of her pregnancy after which she decided to go for a check up. “I was spotting on and off, at week seven of my pregnancy, so I went to the hospital and the doctor did an ultrasound and there was a heartbeat,” she said.
However, the mother of one spotted again and after visiting the doctor for the second time, she was informed of her unborn baby’s death. “At week 13, I spotted again and my hubby was so sad, that morning he was going to a meeting and he dropped us at the hospital. The doctor did another ultrasound and I was told there was no heartbeat.
Apparently, the baby died at week seven, three days after I left the hospital. I screamed in the room and cried nonstop that day. I have never cried that much in my life. My sister called my husband, he was silent for a minute then told my sister it was okay and he came back to the hospital only to find me devastated,” she added.
After suffering a miscarriage, the couple got pregnant again and Milly had her first child in 2018 through caesarean section. Chebby and Terence named their baby Milla Netai, derived from the word Milla which means fear and hope and Netai meaning first in Kalenjin.
Size 8
After weeks of speculations some time in 2018, gospel singer Linet Munyali, alias Size 8 came out and clarified that she was indeed pregnant but lost her baby. “I’m writing this may be to someone it will be an encouragement. Rumours were in many blogs that I was pregnant but I never did really confirm it because it was a battle all the way so I just wanted to go with the fight privately.
But God decided the best lane for me and I lost the pregnancy juzi. To be honest I’ve cried I’ve asked God so many questions I have given my husband stress He is trying to make me be okay, I was so angry. My faith in God has been greatly tested. But what the holy spirit remainds me is this ‘Linet trust in the faithfulness of God trust in His perfect love for you He knows what’s best for you Linet’,” she wrote. A year later, Size 8 and her husband Sammy Muraya, alias DJ Mo welcomed their second child, a baby boy they named Muraya Junior.
Size 8 also narrated that she suffered serious complications that nearly cost her life and that of the baby during her last trimester. “In life learn to appreciate your spouse and children. For me, getting here is a miracle. I almost died several times because of this pregnancy. I used to feel a sharp pain as if oxygen was not getting into my brain and started convulsing. At some point, I started getting minor strokes where my left side was completely paralysed. I remember being taken for MRI scans,” said Size 8.
Nana Owiti
Nana wife to musician Kennedy Ombima, alias King Kaka in 2019 opened up about her miscarriage in 2014. “King had started calling me Mama Gweth long before we planned on having a baby as it was a unisex name. I told him there was no need of starting clinic mapema so we were good. First forward to the 1st of April 2014. I go to the washroom and get a blood stain,” said Nana at the time.
After noticing the blood stain, she sought medical attention and after the doctor did a scan, she was informed that they could not find the heartbeat. “We were taken to the ER (Emergency Room) and when I woke up, King Kaka was by my side. My heart was dented, soul fractured, eyes swollen and my womb childless,” she added.
However, Nana conceived again three months later and gave birth to a baby girl they named Gweth and three years later, she was blessed with a baby boy, Prince. “A powerful photo a few Days ago. God answers prayers and one of my prayers this year, a son. A King Is Born, Iroma. And Asante Nana,” wrote King Kaka.
Amani
In July 2020, Amani opened up about losing her unborn baby, at a time when she was sure that her season to be a parent had come. The musician and her husband, Chinasa, had tried a couple of times to be parents but it was all in vain.
“When I took this picture last year, I was pregnant but lost it. It hurt but, in that moment, I chose not to grumble or murmur or get angry. Though disappointed, I refused to give up and lose faith. I had conceived after not being able to conceive for a while,” she said.
The singer suffered a miscarriage in 2019, and 10 months later, she successfully welcomed her first baby. “Today I hold my gift from God in my arms. My baby. It is still so surreal. Yahweh is a faithful God who is always on time. All the glory goes back to him,” she said.
Hamisa Mobetto
Socialite turned businesswoman Hamisa Mobetto disclosed that she had three miscarriages before having her second child, Dylan, with musician Diamond Platnumz. She said that they tried to conceive for a while without success despite Diamond being in a relationship with Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan.
“Before I gave birth to Dylan, I got pregnant and miscarried three pregnancies. I miscarried my first pregnancy, when we traveled to another country. I came back and got pregnant again for the second and third time but I miscarried, it’s the period which we were dating. Dylan was my fourth pregnancy and we were together until the day I was going to give birth. So, I feel like if there was a human being who was sure that the baby was his, then she is number one.”
