ADELLE ONYANGO ELATED AFTER MEETING PRESIDENT EMMANUEL MACRON
Former radio presenter Adelle Onyango is elated after meeting French president Emmanuel Macron during her visit to France. In a social media post, Adelle said meeting with the president and attending workshops over the week have been introspective moments for her.
“Having a meeting with president Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday and all the workshops I’ve been in this week, have birthed such deep introspective moments for me. As an African and global citizen, there’s an honest introspection on two fronts; my responsibility in articulating the glaring issues in France’s relationship with Africa now, not limited to, but built heavily on colonization (and the lack of acknowledgment of its effects),” wrote the media personality.
She also said that her focus is entirely on ending sexual violence, however, noting that it is not an isolated issue and its solution needs a better understanding. “And then, the expansion of the issues to champion. Obviously you know my focus is on #EndingSexualViolence but the more I work in this space the more I realise how it’s not an isolated issue from others so the solution needs an understanding of a lot more. As I prepare the speech I’m giving at moment Afrique these are just some of my thoughts. Wish me luck,” wrote Adelle.
Prior to meeting President Macron, Adelle had a meeting with Franch Minister for Gender Elisabeth Moreno where they discussed key matters including ending sexual violence. “I also met Elisabeth Moreno – the Minister Delegate for Gender Equality, Diversity and Equal Opportunities – her and I realised we have a shared passion on ending sexual violence. While going through years of healing from my traumatic sexual trauma, I never thought that one day I’d be able to turn it around to building solutions even outside of Kenya! I hope I remember this in those moments where the journey gets difficult.”
