MISS UNIVERSE KENYA ROSHANARA EBRAHIM SPEAKS ON CONTEMPLATING SUICIDE AFTER EX-BOYFRIEND LEAKED HER NUDES
Dethroned Miss Kenya now Miss Universe Roshanara Ebrahim opened up on events that led to her losing her crown. In an interview, the model said she was in an unstable relationship and after a fight with her boyfriend, he sent her nude images to the organization’s franchise director.
“I was in a relationship where there was a lot of friction, he had no self-worth and I had no self-love, we were a match made in heaven. So here we are, two hurt people not knowing what to do with our pain and he lashed out sending my nudes images to the franchise director and I was called to the office and told it’s done,” Roshanara explained.
After losing the crown, Roshanara stated that she had mixed feelings which included feelings of rejection and abandonment. “It was heartbreaking, there was a lot of feelings of rejection and abandonment because this was everything I wanted and it was gone. For me, another part that was really painful was, this is the lady I called mom and she is the only person who had these pictures. My thing was ‘mom protect me’ and sadly she had already sent out the press statement, it was already on the papers the next morning,” she said.
The model recalled going home on the fateful day and contemplating suicide. “I remember going home after being dethroned and going upstairs to the 9th floor of my apartment building, standing at the edge, it was late at night, I was feeling the wind against my face and I wanted it over. I didn’t see what I was here for any more. I was in such a deep state of victimization and just pain especially with the background of depression,” Roshanara recalled.
Following the dethronement, Roshanara wrote emails to modelling agencies she always wanted to be part of and fortunately, one of the biggest agencies in South Africa at the time reached out to her. “I wrote emails to all the agencies that I dreamt of being admitted to in South Africa and the best modelling agency in SA at the time wrote back to me and said, ‘come for an interview’. I took all the money I had and I booked that flight not knowing what was on the other side,” she added.
In October 2021, Roshanara was crowned Miss Universe Kenya, five years after she was stripped off her title as Miss World Kenya.
