ZORA ACTOR ALEX KHAYO TALKS PLAYING A GAY ROLE IN NAFSI
Popular Kenyan actor Alex Khayo has responded to questions about his casting in the LGBTQ+ role on popular film Nafsi. Speaking to Buzz Central, Alex said he did a lot of research on the LGBTQ+ community to represent them well, “In Nafsi I play a gay role and people assume ‘I’m gay’ but it’s not to be taken personal. I had to research so much about gay guys because personally I don’t judge people’s orientation and It was a lot of back and forth between me and the producer. Whatever happens I’m just telling the story, regardless of religion, political interest and tribe, I am just doing my job which is telling the story.” he said.
Khayo also spoke about his struggles to make it in the industry, “The journey of acting is quite tough, you are fighting for a role with people who are hotter than you, taller than you, have more beard than than you, more talented and then, there is you. You look at the audition line and wonder what are the chances of getting the role. I didn’t have a godfather, all I had was my talent and discipline. I have come to learn so much as I continue my path in acting. It is hard when you are starting but when you are in, sometimes you don’t even go for auditions.”
He said he prays every time he is about to shoot a scene, “I am a very prayerful person and I don’t go to a scene without praying because I always want to give the best.”
