SAUTI SOL POSTPONE EUROPE TOUR OVER DELAYED VISAS
Celebrated Kenyan band Sauti Sol has postponed their Europe Tour.
In a statement issued online, the band said their trip had to be rescheduled because of the delayed VISAs from the UK embassy in Kenya, “It is with the utmost regret that we have to once again postponed our shows in Europe. Despite applying in time, we are informed by the UK embassy that delays occasioned by the Ukraine crisis has made it increasingly difficult to procure the necessary travel visas in a timely manner. It is with a heavy heart that we disappoint our fans and only hope to make it up to everyone that looked forward to joining us.”
The band assured their fans that all bought tickets will remain valid, “We are working with the UK venues and promoters to have the rescheduled dates announced next week, when we have word of when the UK visas will be granted. All tickets will remain valid.”
Three months ago, Sauti Sol’s lead singer Bien blasted the German embassy in Kenya for allegedly mistreating the band during a visit. He claimed that the group went to the embassy to get VISAs for their Europe tour, but were treated in a disrespectful way.
“I, first of all, want to apologize for not being here on time. It is very unlike Sauti Sol to not be on time. We have had a career that’s so long, I don’t think you get this far if you don’t have respect for time. But I think I need to explain where we were, and what was happening where we were.
We were down the road at the German embassy collecting our Visas for our upcoming European tour, and what was a 5-minute process became a 3-hour process. That is the most undignifying way, and disrespectful way, to treat an African content creator who is at the top of their game in their country.”
