AKOTHEE SHARES HOW SHE WAS CONNED
Musician Akothee has narrated how she lost she was conned Sh5000. Akothee who is currently building a school in Migori County, said the conman used her project to con her.
According to her, a man named Dickson Ngunjiri claimed to be working Kenya Forest Service and wanted to donate timber to her project. “Last week we received an email claiming to have come from Kenya Forest wanting to donate 6000 ft of Timber to Akothee Foundation. The gentle man by the name Mr Dickson insisted that the timber be delivered with immediate effect, he then ask us to cater for transportation, but we said, we couldn’t at the moment, they will have to wait. He then sent us photos to confirm that the timber had been loaded and his boss was waiting for us to fuel the lorry for the timber to be delivered.”
Akothee paid for the fuel but never heard from the man, “He said how much he loves to give back to the community and he loves the work that I do. He insisted on meeting and talking to me directly since I am the founder of the foundation. I got concerned with the several calls Mr Dickson made harassing us to deliver the Timber. We asked them to head to a petrol station to fuel the lorry and send us the Paybill. We paid Sh5000. Since November 5th we waited for the lorry to arrive at the Akothee Foundation warehouse until today, it’s been in vain.”
She was later informed that several people had been conned the same way, “I have called Mr Julius Kamau, Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), and he has confirmed to me that several people including me have been conned and the profile picture the guy is using is not his, but an innocent officer. Akothee Foundation has shown it all to me. Some companies would pledge to get publicity and appearances on the foundation activities and end up not honouring their pledges. It’s sad.”
