NIGERIAN HYPEMAN JERRY SHAFFER ARRIVES IN KENYA
Celebrated hypeman, Jerry Adibe popularly known as Jerry Shaffer has arrived in Kenya ahead of his event.
The CEO of Slippery Entertainment is set to perform for the first time in Kenya. In a statement released by his camp, Jerry talked about how he evolved from being a club owner to a hypeman, “Back in 2015, I used to own a club in Nigeria. As we know Lagos is the heart of entertainment in Nigeria but I had my club outside of the city. The culture was different there, they didn’t have hypemen just DJs.
I spoke to my partner and told him we need a hypeman in the club. He asked me to get a microphone and I started trying. He told me I was good on the microphone and he suggested I should just be the hypeman for the night. I did it that night and then a couple of girls walked up to me with so many compliments then went on to ask me to host their birthdays for them. The rest is history, they say.”
Jerry has worked alongside reputable Nigerian artists such as D’banj, Wande Coal, Slim Case, Vector and DJ Consequence amongst others. Jerry, also got a chance to be the official Hennessy Hypeman and he’s made a name for himself in the Nigerian industry hosting events with reputable Nigerian artistes. Adibe is on a mission to give the hyping business the relevance it deserves and encourages other creatives not to undermine the craft. “The only thing I hate about the Hypeman business is the disrespect people give to us. A lot of people tend to undermine the industry but it really pays and it’s always fun hyping, trust me,” he added.
The hype man also started his music career in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic with his debut single Say So featuring Nigerian-British singer Mo Eazy and Slimmz, propelling him into the mainstream music scene. Since then, Jerry has gone on to build a legacy as a prolific entertainer, including managing one of Nigeria’s biggest artistes, Bad Boy Timz. He has also released a new studio record Vibration. Being one of the most sorted and looked after craft at the moment the song contains the vocal appearance of Dangbana Republik star, Afro-beat lynchpin, Bella Shmurda, Anonymous Recording act and Bad Boy Timz who all did well on the jam.
