KENYA SIGNS MOU WITH CHINA FOR FILM CO-PRODUCTION PARTNERSHIPS

The Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Arts and Sports, signed an MOU with China Film Administration to collaborate in the area of film development through co-production between Kenyan and Chinese filmmakers.

The collaboration will strengthen cultural exchange and expand cooperation in the film industry between the two nations. Expanding cooperation in the film industry opens doors to immense economic opportunities for both nations.

“Kenya is ready for film business and we will be a worthy partner in this endeavour. As we explore the avenues of cooperation, we must appreciate the importance of nurturing our youth as our ambassadors, their involvement in the film and creative industry will sharpen their skills and knowledge. We must invest in their potential by providing them with tools and opportunities to shine at the global stage,” noted CS Ababu Namwamba.

Joint ventures between our talented filmmakers, producers, and technicians can lead to the creation of exceptional films that captivate audiences worldwide. The film industry provides an avenue for nations to showcase their diverse cultures, traditions and values. By working jointly and promoting collaboration between Kenya and China, we can create a profound impact on our respective societies and the global film industry,” the CS added.

Speaking at the event Chinese Minister of Culture and Arts, Hu Heping pointed out that through film, Kenya and China can offer audiences a unique insight into the lives, dreams, and aspirations of our citizens. The Minister who was accompanied by the Executive Deputy Director General, China Film Administration, Mao Yu noted that the partnership will provide a way of exchanging cultural practices through stories told by film fostering the advancement of human civilization and cultural diversity worldwide.

Timothy Owase, CEO of Kenya Film Commission said that “The film industry provides an avenue for nations to showcase their diverse cultures, traditions and values. By working jointly and promoting collaboration between Kenya and China, we can create a profound impact on our respective societies and the global film industry. 

The signing ceremony was followed by screening of the Kenyan Film The Last Supper directed and produced by Karanja Ngendo; followed by the Africa premiere of One and Only.
