MUSICIAN STEPH KAPELA CONDEMNS ONGOING FEMICIDE IN KENYA
After the tragic murder of 20-year-old JKUAT student Rita Waeni Muendo, whose dismembered body was discovered stuffed in polythene bags in Roysambu, musician Steph Kapela took to social media to call for an end to the senseless and brutal killing of women.
In a TikTok video, Kapela urged Kenyans to refrain from blaming the victims, emphasising the importance of shifting focus towards addressing the root causes of the issue. “We need to have a conversation about what is happening out here. The story of women being killed is becoming ridiculous. It makes no sense. Every week we hear stories of women being pushed from a roof, some murdered and now someone has been decapitated.
The worst part is when this happens you start hearing stories of clitocurrency, mubaba and prostitution. What are we talking about? Like seriously, are we going to blame the victims? Why are we not talking about the man that has killed a woman. To the keyboard warriors, are you willing to murder a woman because she is not willing to do what you want her to do? Understand that these people are psychos and have no place in our society.
Kapela further stated that law enforcement officers should cease accepting bribes and instead focus on fulfilling their responsibilities. “These cops that are out here talking that every AirBnB needs to have CCTV, that’s just PR. The only thing that can make a difference is when the law becomes the law. They should stop taking bribes and not do anything. They should also stop with the cheap PR that they care but they don’t. Stop killing women.”
