NJUGUSH ON HOW TTNT SHOW LEFT HIM WITH SH6 MILLION DEBT
Renowned comedian Blessed Njugush recently opened up about the financial challenges he encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic. In an interview with Convo podcast, Njugush talked about the financial setback he encountered after his first Through Thick and Thin (TTNT) show.
The event left him with a Sh6 million debt, “The idea for Through Thick and Thin (TTNT) came when people requested to see me in a live experience. I wanted to do a show for 500 people maximum and we ended up doing TTNT1 for 2800 people then covid 29 pandemic hit. We had borrowed money to do the event but we entered into debt.
They gave us a year to pay for it and we had shows lined up but when covid 19 pandemic hit and all public gatherings were banned. The guys we borrowed the money from ask us to pay all of it. All the money I used to earn from campaigns went to paying them. Then we made a mistake and borrowed Sh400,000 from a shylock with a 30 percent interest charge weekly.”
Njugush had difficulties repaying the shylock and ended up staying with the loan for 5 months (20weeks), “We had been paying only the interest and at some point we couldn’t. They shylock forgave my interest and asked me to pay the Sh400,000 only. We paid partly and promised to pay the rest. We made content for TTNT2 and TTNT3 and sold it on a website without shareable links and people paid to watch my content and that’s how we cleared the debt.”
Last year, the comedian made headlines after performing in sold-out international shows, “We did TTNT4 which was an idea of Liz Njuguna who encouraged us to do shows outside the country. She got a promoter for us and we sold out before we flew for the show.”
