NATALIE GITHINJI RECOUNTS HER LAST MOMENT WITH NJAMBI KOIKAI
Radio personality Natalie Githinji has opened up about her friendship with the late Njambi Koikai.
Natalie recounted their first meeting in 2017 when she was still a university student. “We met in 2017; I was still in campus, in the hostels. I sneaked with my friend to go support Jahmby. When we met, gosh, you’d think tumejuana for 10 years. She was so warm, assured me that she understood my pain, and that is when our friendship started.”
Despite the challenges posed by their health issues, the two maintained a close connection. “When I did my first surgery, she was supposed to visit me but then her health wasn’t that good, and when she got better, I had already been discharged. Same to when I had my second procedure.“
Githinji recalled how she couldn’t reach Njambi when she was admitted, “I had another scan the last week of May and I was to call her and update her of my results vile tu sisi hufanya. Then I saw her post about the blood donation, texted her immediately, ‘Hey love, I’ve seen you have been admitted, is it endo tena?’ Grey tick.
I didn’t know she was in a critical condition, so I waited for her call because that is what we did, you get well or stable, reply to each other’s texts then call each other and talk forever… I waited and waited until the internet gave me the worst feedback.”
Natalie talked about the deep void left by Njambi’s passing. “She was one of the guest speakers at the Endometriosis event that I’ve been postponing. Life mahn, when I tell you that I have been waiting for her to call me back or reply to the text nilituma yenye bado iko bado kwa grey tick, you’ll deff think I’m crazy.
Yani no more calls for comfort, no more updating each other, no more giving each other hope. Woi Jahmby aki ya nani umenimaliza I swear.“
The radio presenter promised to honour her friend’s legacy. “It will take time to accept hii story, but eventually, I will. This is the last thing I thought I’d ever write about you mammie. Nakupenda sana love, sana aki and I appreciate especially for the great times we shared.
The painful and happy times, sis, and the project you were pushing and fighting for, I still remember it. I’ll make it known to everyone and I will fight to make it happen… I will fight even on my worst days and to my last breath, I promise.“
