CONCERN GROWS OVER MAVERICK AOKO’S DISAPPEARANCE, FANS DEMAND ANSWERS 

The absence of well-known Kenyan social media figure Scophine Aoko Otieno alias Maverick Aoko has generated widespread worry and concerns among her fans and the online community. 

Aoko who is recognised for her bold and controversial views, has not posted on her social media platforms for hours, prompting a surge of concerned tweets and posts using the hashtag #FreeAoko. “Where is Aoko ? Her account is deactivated and her phones are off. Let it NOT be what I am thinking,” said X user Kitawa.

“It’s 30 hours since we heard from Aoko. She is missing and that is not good news to all the activists of good governance and a law compliant country. #FreeAoko,” James Chege wrote.

Another fan named Sheriff encouraged fans to keep posting until she is back,  “Where is Aoko coz that lady has never been this silent. Her account is also deactivated. Before she went mute Rosie her manager had been missing but was found. If you see this just keep reposting until we see her back alive. Free Aoko.”

“Aoko’s disappearance just a week after her brutal abduction shouldn’t be taken lightly. She may have shortcomings but that doesn’t guarantee the inhumane acts she is subjected to. Aoko’s mistake was hurting the ‘big men’ for knowing too much. Where is Aoko? #FreeAoko” Boaz Mabera wrote.

On August 19, Aoko was charged before a Milimani Court with publishing false information on her ‘X’ social media handle. Aoko faced two other counts of cyber harassment and fraudulent use of electronic data. She appeared before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000.
