JOSE CHAMELEONE’S EX-WIFE DANIELLA ATIM SPEAKS ON GETTING A RESTRAINING ORDER AGAINST HIM
Daniella Atim, the ex-wife of celebrated Ugandan singer Jose Chameleone, has opened up about the challenges that led her to leave her abusive marriage.
Daniella, who has been private about her journey, shared how she reclaimed her life and established stability for her children. Describing her marriage, Daniella disclosed that she had mentally and emotionally checked out as early as 2016, while continuing to keep up appearances for her safety and to protect her five children. She explained, “It’s dangerous to let them know you are done,” revealing that she began carefully planning her exit in silence.
In 2018, she left with just the clothes on her back, camping temporarily at her brother’s before starting over. “Took a 6 months trip to familiarise myself with what would be my new life and that same year I gathered my most precious heart beats and I was gone forever in 2018. Left no trace of suspicion as I walked out with only what I had on my body and camped at my brother’s for a while as I planned my exit, told my brother the morning of the trip because I did not want anyone talking me out of it,” Daniella recalled.
Touching on the trials she faced while waiting for legal authorisation to work. Daniella managed to enroll all her children in private schools and build a supportive community, with her eldest now a second-year pre-med student. In 2021, Daniella took another major step by becoming a homeowner.
Later, in 2023, she secured a restraining order against Chameleone after receiving threats. “I secured a restraining order against my ex in 2023 after he threatened me in my own space. And I went no contact as well. Currently working on earning licensure to become a business owner. Baby steps in the right direction. And finally I also allowed myself to feel loved again.”
She wished she had left him sooner, “Dear girl child, I was scared too, I had no idea what I was doing, but I am so glad I took that leap of faith…my only regret is not having left sooner.”
