GOVERNMENT DISSOLVES KENYA FILM CLASSIFICATION BOARD

By  |

In a decisive move to enhance efficiency and cut public resource wastage, the Cabinet has approved reforms to merge 42 State corporations with related or overlapping functions into 20 streamlined agencies

The reforms were endorsed during a Cabinet meeting chaired by President William Ruto at the Kakamega State Lodge on Tuesday. The reforms, aimed at addressing fiscal pressures and improving service delivery, will also dissolve and restructure several government agencies. “These reforms have been necessitated by increasing fiscal pressures arising from constrained government resources, the demand for high-quality public services, and the growing public debt burden,” read a statement issued after the meeting.

An assessment conducted by the National Treasury reviewed 271 State corporations, excluding those earmarked for privatisation, identifying inefficiencies and redundancies that necessitate these changes.

Among the nine State corporations to be dissolved are: Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB),  Kenya Fish Marketing Authority, Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa, LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority, President’s Award – Kenya, Nuclear Power and Energy Agency, Kenya National Commission for UNESCO, National Council for Nomadic Education and Kenya Tsetse Fly and Trypanosomiasis Eradication Council.
