JACKIE MATUBIA EXPOSES ALLEGED PARKING PENALTY SCAM BY NAIROBI CITY COUNTY
Popular Kenyan actress Jackie Matubia has publicly criticised the Nairobi City County over what she describes as unfair and unjustified parking penalties.
In a passionate social media post, Matubia expressed her frustration with the county’s lack of transparency and accountability, particularly regarding the absence of a customer care hotline to address such issues. “I’m here to rant,” Matubia began. “Why does the Nairobi City County not have a customer care number? How can you operate without a way to help people? This is unacceptable.”
Matubia recounted her recent experience, revealing that she was slapped with a penalty of Sh2,300 despite having proof of payment for her last visit to the Central Business District (CBD) on February 20. “Today, March 11, I’m in town, and when I try to pay for parking, I’m told I have a penalty. Where did this come from? Are you trying to steal from Kenyans? What’s going on?” she questioned.
This is not the first time Matubia has faced such an issue. “The first time, I was in a hurry, so I paid and said I’d sort it out later, but I forgot. Now it’s happening again. I have the message from Nairobi County and the M-Pesa confirmation showing I paid on February 20. How do I have this penalty? This is theft!”
Upon inquiring at the Nairobi County Offices, Matubia was informed that the penalty was for February 28, allegedly for unpaid parking. However, she denied being in Nairobi on that day. “On February 28, I was in Mombasa, and my car was parked at home. This is clearly lies. I even have flight tickets and CCTV footage to prove I wasn’t in Nairobi and that my car was at home,” she stated.
Matubia also said that the issue is affecting many Kenyans. “People have been sending me bills of up to Sh75,000. I’ve even received messages from someone who has penalties, and they don’t even own a car. What the Kenyan government is doing to its citizens is so wrong.”
