MEDIA PERSONALITY MWANAISHA CHIDZUGA MOURNS HER MUM ZAINAB
The family of former Kwale Woman Representative Zainab Chidzuga is mourning following her demise. According to the family, the outspoken politician died at a Nairobi hospital of covid-19 complications. Chidzuga was reportedly hospitalised for two weeks over heart complications as a result of contracting the coronavirus.
Her daughter, media personality Mwanaisha Chidzuga mourned her with a heart wrenching tribute on social media, thanking Allah for her mother who she termed a gift. “Tulikupenda Mammy, Supa Supa, Smart mama lakini Mola amekupenda zaidi.Iam so grateful to Allah for giving me and my siblings the gift of calling you mama…Till we meet again rest in power. Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ileihi Rajiun. From Allah we came and into Him we shall return. Hon. Zainab Kalekye Chidzuga was born 65 years ago in 1956. Through out her life she was a champion of community- centered empowerment with an unashamed bias to women and youth.
She was a peacemaker, role model, mentor and mother to many earning her the deserved title of mama Kwale County. Hon. Chidzuga lived a healthy and fulfilled life until mid July 2021 when she fell ill and succumbed on 12/Aug/2021. She is survived by 7 children and 22 grand children. Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ileihi Rajiun. From Allah we came and into Him we shall return,” she mourned her mother.
Chidzuga was also mourned by Deputy President William Ruto who noted that the country has lost a progressive and steadfast leader who was a champion of women empowerment. He also prayed for God’s comfort as the family comes to terms with her death. “We have lost a selfless and visionary leader who served the people of Kwale with dedication. Mheshimiwa Zainab Chidzuga was progressive, steadfast, and focussed. We will remember her as a champion of women’s empowerment. We pray to God that He grants strength and comfort to the family, relatives, and the people of Kwale County during this time of grief. Rest In Peace,” wrote the DP.
Chidzuga served as the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Chairperson in the ‘90s before becoming the first Kwale Woman Representative in 2013; a seat she won on an ODM ticket. In 2017, she joined the Jubilee Party and lost the seat to current Kwale Woman Representative Zuleikha Hassan who flew the ODM party flag.
