KENYA TO BID TO HOST THE MISS WORLD COMPETITION
Brand Kenya and the Ministry of Sports Culture and The Arts has announced that Kenya will bid to host the Miss World competition in the near future.
Speaking at a press conference held at Serena Hotel for Reigning Miss World Mireia Lalaguna, Permanent Secretary Joe Okudo expressed confidence in Kenya’s ability to host the competition, and marketed Kenya as the ideal destination to explore talent. He assured the visitors that Kenya is a safe destination to visit, invest and live.
He added, “Hosting the Miss World will therefore be a big boost to Kenya which as it seeks to attract international participation and inject billions into Kenya’s economy through the multiplier effect of the monies that will accrue to the national GDP,” said PS Okudo.
Miss Mireia is currently in the country and was suppose to visit last year but due to travel advisories caused by terror attacks in the country the visit was postponed.
She was accompanied by the reigning Miss World Asia and 2015 Beauty with a purpose winner Maria Harfanti, Miss World chair and the founder of Beauty with a Purpose ambassador programme Julia Morley and Miss World events director Steve Douglas.
During her stay she has visited Gertrude Hospital Muthaiga and AIC Cure Kijabe and she will also award the former Miss World Kenya 2014 Idah Nguma with Sh1.2 million for winning 2014 Beauty with a Purpose category at Miss World 2014.
Idah has been working with Smile Train an international children’s charity that deals with fixing the cleft lip and palate.
