LUPITA NYONG’O JOINS OTHER HOLLYWOOD CELEBRITIES IN #IAMANIMMIGRANT CAMPAIGN
Oscar-winning film 12 Years a Slave actress Lupita Nyong’o has joined other Hollywood celebrities Kerry Washington, Tracee Ellis Ross, Estelle, Akon, Adepero Oduye and Rosario Dawson among other celebrities.
And made a video marking June as Immigrant History Month, the video is backed by non-profit Welcome.us. So far Immigrant History Month has been celebrated for three years, but US President Obama made it official last years.
This comes as research done by Pew Research Centre says, 3.8 million foreign-born blacks, mostly from Africa and the Caribbean, now make up the fabric of the United States, with that number growing steadily. And by 2060, black immigrants will make up 16.5 percent of the U.S. black population.
