David Rudisha won his second consecutive Olympic 800m gold medal. The runner nicknamed “King David” became the first person to successfully defend an Olympic 800m gold medal since 1964.
The 27-year-old Kenyan showed his experience to keep his composure after compatriot Alfred Kipketer sprinted clear on the first lap of the race.
Rudisha hit the front with about 300m to go as Kipketer started to fade and never looked troubled as he won in 1.42.15 seconds.
This comes after the injuries he suffered after 2012 missing the worlds in 2013, requiring a knee operation less than two years ago.
