Akorino community has in the past been castigated especially for their conservative views and fashion but that has changed. Meet Kenya’s most popular Akorino fashionistas. These Akorinos are on top of their careers, wildly popular and setting the style trends locally.

Carey Priscilla

With over 60,000 followers on Instagram, Carey also takes the crown for one of the most stylish Akorino Kenya has. She’s much more versatile in her style, dressing in cool pjs, denim skirts, dinner dresses and the signature pleated skirts. The beauty and makeup content creator has managed to leverage her following and turn that into a brand. She has a YouTube channel with over 1,500 subscribers and runs Carey Beauty, an online brand for makeup classes, weddings, special events and engagements.

Peter Joel Mushkina

Peter is not only fashionable but he’s a pioneer in his own right. He owns the first Akorino Skating Team initiative in Kenya. The entertainment producer and web designer has a flair for style, often adding colour to his suits by either dressing in an African print half-coats, or simply adding an eye-catching lapel. He’s also quintessentially stylish given his looks which range from semi casual to formal.

Pesh Wanjiku

Peris Wanjiku, also known as Pesh, has over 30,000 followers on Instagram and over 15,000 followers on Twitter. She’s an experienced fashion model, which is seen through her stylish outfits ranging from cool denim jackets to classy stilettos. Pesh also doubles up as a digital marketing influencer, pushing brand messages across her platforms. She also runs an online thrift store selling her signature pleated skirts, called Peshy Classy Collection. She likes sharing motivational quotes on her Instagram account, captioning her pictures with budgets such as, “I never try to fit it. I was born to stand out.” That, I agree with.

Dr David Wachira

David is another Mukurino who has a keen eye for style. You will find dressed in African prints, stripped suits and colourful shirts. David is a motivational speaker, focusing on speaking life into the youth. He was born in Kenya but was raised in the United States where he recently wed an American lady. It was a beautiful union, one which has been deemed a beautiful cross-cultural marriage by the press. David says of his marriage, “love recognizes no barriers, it jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination.” 

Karima Lylow

Karima Kimemia, aka Karima Lylow, is an Akorino actress, digital content creator and a true hype master. Her style is oscillates between chic and contemporary and has a makeup game you can’t help but appreciate. The beauty on occasion ditches the pleated skirt for African-print skirts and matching that with a pair of boots. Apart from sharing songs and supporting her friends, she’s also good at motivating others, writing in one of her posts, “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”
