I HAD A DIFFICULT RELATIONSHIP WITH MY MOTHER SAYS MWALIMU RACHEL

By  |

Radio presenter Mwalimu Rachel has had quite a troubled relationship with her mother. The NRG presenter revealed she had a difficult relationship with her mother and always felt she loved her older sister more,

My mom and I didn’t start off as besties I’ll be honest. I was the “difficult child” I was told I gave her complications during child birth. I always felt she love my older sis more because she was calm, cool collected and top in class. I was the complete opposite.

There was a time I remember as an adolescent during one of our shouting matches where I told her I doubt she was even my real mother. Wow. I was told to go and look for my mother. My sister trying hard to calm the situation. I just didn’t understand why she didn’t see me or understand me. I even ran away from home one time. Story for another day!

I think she was just scared that I would end up “lost” in this world and didn’t want to look as though she was encouraging my wild side. Being too religious also hindered her from having honest conversations with me as I was maturing and I disliked her for it. Never talked about boys, sex, life generally.

However, their relationship changed when she became a mother, “But I later discovered that I was being unfair to her because how could she teach me something she was never taught? Her upbringing was different those days so she didn’t know any better.

We started being really close after I too became a mom. I understood her fears and concerns. And she surprised me how much support she gave me even when I thought she wouldn’t. She’s now my mom and friend. I love her and so glad I can say that and I mean it.”
