I’M PLANNING TO RELEASE A BBI SONG BEN GITHAE CONFIRMS

By  |

Gospel singer Ben Githae has opened up about working with the president’s campaign team. Talking about how he met the president for the first time, he said it was by chance as he was on his way to a ruracio.

Msiniwekele they are the ones with the problem, I’m innocent. In 2011, I was leaving my cousin’s ordination and something special happened. I was going to perform at a ruracio in Karen, but when I reached in Ruiru I found a huge gathering. Uhuru was then the deputy prime minister, Kabogo was also there talking to people as they were heading to Thika for an event. Artistes who were invited to perform were Muigai Wa Njoroge, Loise Kim and John DeMathew and the MC was Njogu Wa Njoroge.

Kabogo saw me and invited me to perform when the roadshow truck moved, I continued with them, while the ruracio guys were still calling me. We got to Thika and the rest of the artistes were performing at the event. The emcee thought I was the headlining artiste. But after the event, I had not been paid, so a friend told me to continue following Kabogo’s team until I was paid, we reach at Utalii Hotel and they sorted me.

Then Uhuru was going to Hague and they started going round in Nyeri and Meru for prayer sessions. They made my song Mafataro their theme song and before any prayers, I had to perform the song, we continued until they formed TNA and he became the president.”

In 2016, after he saw the president was about to lose to NASA, he decided to record Tano Tena to counter NASA songs, “2016 NASA was on fire, they had so many good songs for their party like Wanaona Mambo Yaki Babidilika, Raila Tibim. I saw my guys were going home, so, while recording my album, I told my producer to listen to Tano Tena and he said it was going to be a big song. He recommended I record it, the next day we shot the music video.

When we were uploading Tano Tena on Youtube, a Sauti Sol song was trending at number one but by the end of the day, Tano Tena was at the top spot. The following day, the president was taking his papers to the IBC, Tano Tena posters were on his roadshow cars.”

However, the musician said had not been paid, “But I had not been paid, a close friend to the president called me and said the president was looking for me. I was told to be at State House Nakuru the next day in the morning. I met the president with DP Ruto, they told me they loved the song and asked me to join their campaign.

I was given a very heavy envelope; I couldn’t believe it was mine, I thought they might take it back. We did the campaign and when the supreme court confirmed there was going to be a re-election. I went back the studio and redid the song to Wembe ni Ule Ule, we went back to campaigning and he became the president. I’m not the problem, I’m innocent.”

Githae says he is preparing to release a BBI song when the time comes, “When Thika Rd was closed and people were stranded, I was eating mukimo at home. But some people were at the Bypass with women because the bars and hotels are closed. While some were mad because the ladies had used the fare and never came to meet them. Then they accused me, how was I the problem. I’m planning to release a song for BBI when the time comes.”

He also said the last time he spoke to the president was three weeks ago, “I spoke to the president three weeks ago, when my mother passed away. He sent me his contribution.”
