By  |

Actor Gillie Owino, popularly known as Mzee Msiri on Pete will be greatly missed on our screens following his demise. Gillie was laid to rest at his home town Seme in Kisumu County on May 15.

The 63-year-old theatre TV and film director, actor and writer will be remembered for the many plays he staged at Mombasa’s Little Theatre Club and Kenya National Theatre in Nairobi. Owino was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sanaa Theatre Awards in 2018 because of the immense contribution towards the industry.

It is deeply saddening to hear about the loss of Mzee Msiri. Through his role, he inspired many young actors and kept many families entertained while acting on Pete. We will remember Mzee Msiri not only as a talented actor, but also for the significant contribution he made to the country’s entertainment industry throughout his career. We greatly appreciate his time with us. May God give him eternal rest.” Timothy Okwaro, M-Net Channels Director for East and Southern channels.

May 11, Pete cast members paid tribute to Mzee Msiri, “It was both sad but fun at the same time when the Maisha Magic East PETE Crew painted the Funzi Island in Kwale County with their White Outfits as they celebrated the Life of Actor Gillie Owino a.k.a Mzee Msiri.

Lead by PETE Producer Anguka Daudi , the Crew accompanied by other members of the creative industry walked in the streets of Funzi Island while praying and singing a special tribute song. This was to show their last Respect to Mzee Msiri and also to thank the beautiful people of Funzi Island a place where the PETE Series has been produced for their support.” Said Hon Sheila Sayo Kahavidza. Gillie is a father of five kids, three boys and two girls.
