DADDIE MARTO TALKS WORKING FOR A YEAR ON NTV’S THE TREND WITHOUT PAY
Actor and TV personality Martin Githinji has explained where he got his nickname Daddie Marto. Speaking with Buzz Central’s Cheptoek Boyo, the actor said he earned the nickname back in campus when he would tell his school mates that his younger sister was his child.
“I have a sister who is 18 years younger than me and when I was in campus I used to go with her to school and floss that she is my child so when people would ask her who her daddy was, she would say, ‘Marto’. One day I get home and my mother tells me how my sister calls me ‘Daddie Marto’ and that is how it stuck,” said Githinji.
Marto also disclosed that he worked on NTV’s The Trend for a whole year without pay, “From the day I started working for NTV’s The Trend I did it for one year without being paid. Every single week, for a full year. We got to the second year and I told them I had proved myself. At the time I told myself it was good for my brand because I was not on screen acting, I didn’t want people to forget me, I was doing something of value for my face to be out there and for people to remember me. Eventually I got myself a contract and we are working,” he said.
