Gengetone group Mbuzi Gang opened up on challenges they faced at the beginning of their music career as individuals and a group. Speaking in a recent interview, the group narrated how they were living in a mansion but they were not in a position to pay rent and basic bills. “We had a mansion, our first mansion we paid Sh40,000. The first and second month we did not get the electricity bill, the third month they sent the electricity bill which was Sh120,000. At the time we had no money because we had no shows,” they said.
Following the hefty electricity bill, the group said that they were forced to move to another house after which they move in with their relatives after failing to paying rent. “We had to move to another house and we were asked to pay Sh150,000 but we had Sh80,000 only. We got to the house but we had no electricity for two weeks. We lived in the house but we had not paid rent for three months. It got to a point where we had no place to live and we had to go and live with our relatives,” the group disclosed.
Mbuzi Gang also narrated how they were forced to sleep in the studio, “At some point the house was closed because of rent and we were forced to sleep in the studio. One person would sleep on the seat while the others would sleep on the floor but we made sure we were making music,” the group stated.
