MUSICIAN MARYA TALKS ABOUT TOUGH CHILDHOOD AND FAILED MARRIAGES 

Musician-cum-businesswoman Marya has opened up on her childhood, she disclosed that she was adopted by her uncle and aunt following her mother’s death. The 31-year-old said she did not know she was adopted until when she was in high school. “My parents passed away when I was two years old and my uncle and aunty took me in, I can say I had a very rough childhood but I’m here and alive 31 years later, I’m actually grateful they did a very good job for me, my brother and sisters but they hid it from me for a long time until I was in Form 3. I could tell something was missing and I asked questions but they would divert but when they told me I was adopted, I told them I knew it,” she said. 

The mother of one also opened up on her failed relationship with rapper Mustapha, accusing him of being controlling, “I think at that time when I was with Mustapha I was not ready for that, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I just met this guy. I like him and he likes me but then there was some controlling that I did not know how to react to. At that point he was provoking me and I didn’t know how to deal with my anger, that relationship made me learn how to deal with my anger,” Marya added. 

Talking about her second marriage, she said, “People say marriage works, for some people yes but for us I think we need time. It wasn’t one particular thing because each person comes with different characters which you have to deal with. The second one there was a child involved and I think that’s something that most people didn’t understand with me, what I was going through there, I was staying in the marriage because of the child but I realised I need to be happy for my son to be happy and it took me a long time,” she said.
