‘EZEKIEL MUTUA’S APPOINTMENT IS SUCH NONSENSE’ ARTISTES REACT AFTER HE WAS NAMED NEW MCSK CEO
A section of entertainment artistes have rebelled against the appointment of the former Kenya Films and Classification Board (KFCB) boss Ezekiel Mutua as the new Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO.
The artists took to social media and called it a disappointment, led by Sauti Sol members Savara Mudigi, Bien Aime Baraza, andChimano, they said that the government had failed to design an environment that favours the flourishing of talents by constantly appointing corrupt leaders to head critical organisations.
“Artists in this country don’t deserve this kind of treatment. The system keeps on stealing from us. And we continue to appoint the worst individuals.” Savara wrote. On his part, Bien said: “Ezekiel Mutua’s appointment is a disappointment. What did he do for the film? Kenya continues to elevate mediocrity. This is just sad.“
Chimano lamented that the government always appoints the same people to hold the helm of various offices despite them having a questionable past. He termed the entire process as ‘nonsense’ as it is not going to benefit the artists. “Ezekiel Mutua’s appointment is such nonsense… Recycling bin inc. That’s what we are…”
These sentiments come after Mutua assured artists that he will work jointly with them to ensure that their works are profitable through timely and effective distribution of payments and royalties accrued by their music. He also vowed to protect their rights. “To all Kenyan musicians, my message is simple: I will work for you and with you to make music profitable and meaningful. I will fight for you, defend your rights and put conversations about music at the front table as I did with film.” He said.
