SELINA ACTOR PETER KAMAU TALKS FARMING AND WORKING AT JAVA
Popular actor Peter Kamau alias Biko talked to Buzz Central about farming and his dream of being a chef. Speaking in an interview, Biko revealed that apart from acting he also owns a farm.
“I am a farmer, I have livestock mostly, chicken, pigs and cows, I had started doing a little bit of pigeon farming but I’m looking to get back to that. I just love animals. I almost got into quail business but it wasn’t making sense. I know guys were saying it was the easiest way to make money and become a millionaire in Kenya, but when you think about how many people were doing it and the chances of you becoming a millionaire it didn’t make any sense.”
He shared his experience working as a kitchen staff in Java and said he would love to own a restaurant one day, “Growing up I really wanted to be a chef, then I got this short stint at Java where I tried to be a chef. It turns out a professional kitchen is not as exciting as people think. It’s hot and noisy and it didn’t work out. I spoke to the management and I tried being a barista, but that also didn’t work out then there was always that urge of me going back to the arts. I would want to run a restaurant but not as a chef, for some reason I don’t enjoy cooking that much because of that experience.”
Kamau also disclosed how he got the role of Mr Wanyama on Tahidi High, “I had tried auditioning for Tahidi high for a while I remember calling the producer Catherine Wamuyu and she said, ‘Unajua huku hatuchukuwangi wazee’, I told her ‘mi is Mzee’, but she said I sounded like a Mzee. I told her ‘I think you need to see me because I may just be sounding like a Mzee’. She saw me and she was like, ‘you are not as big as I thought you would be’. I auditioned with my friend Zul and a week later they called us for the roles.”
