‘KENYAN ARTISTES ARE THE MOST SUCCESSFUL IN AFRICA’ OTILE BROWN TELLS CRITICS
Kenyan musician Jacob Obunga, popularly known as Otile Brown, has weighed in on the recent debate that Kenyan artists are musically dead and they are struggling to make ends meet with very dry pockets.
Taking to Instagram, the Mama hitmaker told off the critics for saying that they are broke, yet they are among the most successful artists on the continent. He says it is shocking to find that the haters are ‘low-key’ musicians who think that they have made it in the industry to a point that they look down upon other acts when they themselves are naive and totally don’t understand music business.
“Let me surprise you because you all think that you all know. The funny thing is that Kenyan artists are one of the most successful artists in Africa. It might sound funny, but I am giving you the blueprint. When I came to the game, I thought people understood the game…people in this industry don’t understand the business, but they are talking as if they know a lot,” he said.
Otile challenged the naysayers to change the music industry instead of spending time on small talk. He says they should also follow the footsteps of successful artists like Mejja or him, who despite massive accomplishments, they always live to inspire upcoming musicians. “Shut your mouth and fix the game, stop embarrassing yourself! You think you know too much as if you are the one who gave us our success. Anytime you are opening your mouth, you are embarrassing yourself.“
