KRG THE DON ADDRESSES BEEF WITH MBOGI GENJE
Kenyan dancehall artist KRG The Don has addressed his beef with Gengetone group Mbogi Genje.
Speaking in an interview, the flashy musician disclosed that he collided with Mbogi Genje after they did a collaboration of the song ‘Zible,’ which he paid for its production, video and audio, but the group wanted the song to be uploaded on their YouTube channel. He says it is hard to transact any music business with them as they are naive in the fast-paced creative industry.
“Mbogi Genje don’t understand the music business because of how they have been handling their business in the past. I understand that they are green in the business and just came after Covid. They are dealing with the aftermath of covid, and they don’t know how it was before. They are still struggling, and they will struggle for the next 7 or 8 years before they reach a level where they can do music comfortably,” he said.
KRG also said that they clashed on how share music revenues after distributing the song on various online platforms. “They started making noise after the video was out. They don’t know who is supposed to be selling the music to the public, but the important part was how we were going to split the reward of the music.”
He refuted claims that he was taking advantage of small artists for personal gains, saying that he was giving Mbogi Genje a platform in the uptown market because he is a big artist with connections and a huge fan base. When asked if he considers mending his relationship with Mbogi Genje, he gave a tough condition saying, “When they change their mentality and know that we are doing business. We are not doing charity in Nairobi.”
