PRODUCER NICE GITHINJI FUNDRAISING FOR HER NEW FILM MIDNIGHT VAN
Renowned actress, Nice Githinji is fundraising for her new film Midnight Van. The short film explores the culpability of the media when it comes to post election violence told through the eyes of two news anchors.
Speaking to Buzz Central, Nice says the goal is to impact as many Kenyans as possible with the film and to make Kenyans aware of the possibility of misinformation fed to us during campaign seasons.”I see a story with a long shelf life, one that will cut across borders by speaking a language that all of Africa understands -the need for independent media.I do not expect the film to snap us into reality in split seconds, however I am sure of the social transformation it will cause.”
The film will be translated into nine Kenyan languages and the production has consequently borrowed voices of renowned actors and voice actors like Wakio Mzenge (My two wives) and Musa Chachirato, who among others, will be in the dubbing team. “We hope that the person deep in Pokot, El Molo or even Lamu will watch this film and realise that the power is within us. For a change, this film will be about everything BUT the politicians because they can preach their gospel all they want, but we control how to react.”
Githinji adds, “We are appealing to Kenyans who want to see this election run peacefully and smoothly to support our cause. In kind or cash. Do you have a clothesline? We’d like help with the wardrobe. Do you run a transport company/fleet of vehicles? Offer them for distribution or to move our cast and crew as we shoot. Do you own equipment? Lend us some of it. Any and all kinds of help is welcome because we need to get the information to our people all the way in the village. We need to preach peace.”
To help the film come to fruition, they have opened an Mchanga. Paybill : 891300, Account number: 54071. Midnight Van premieres on June 26.
