‘I GOT PREGNANT WHILE ON CONTRACEPTIVES’ JACKIE MATUBIA OPENS UP
Former Tahidi High actress Jackie Matubia has disclosed that she first learned that she was pregnant with her second child when she was eight weeks pregnant.
Speaking on her YouTube channel, the mother of one narrated the events that led to her knowing that she was expectant. It all started when she had tripped down a set of stairs while at an event. She sustained a minor injury that did not require urgent medication, and she turned down the request from boyfriend Blessing Lung’aho, who had suggested taking her to a hospital.
They went home after the event but started developing strange symptoms a few days later. She felt irritated by her fiancee’s perfume, she was fatigued, and had lost appetite. Matubia thought it was Covid 19 and decided to visit a doctor.
“Blessing was getting ready for work, and I told him I was sick and maybe I had contracted Covid 19. I thought it was even as a result of my fall, and I went to the hospital, and the doctors did all the tests after taking blood and urine samples.”
One thing the Zora actress was sure of was that she was not pregnant despite missing her periods that month. She had received a family planning injection, and perhaps not getting her monthlies was the after-effects of the drug.
But she was wrong. She was left numb after the doctor came with the lab test results and asked her when was the last time she had received her periods. She wondered why she was being asked such a question, but the doctor proceeded to announce that she was eight weeks pregnant. She then realised that she had taken a family planning injection while she was pregnant. She regretted and cried because it was not planned, unlike her first pregnancy.
“A thousand things were going through my mind at that time, and the doctors kept comforting me. No one understands you better than you understand yourself. I went to the car and cried for 30 minutes.“
She went home and informed Blessing, who was happy, but she continued crying for a week over the fear of losing all her job contracts. At that time, she was playing the role of Nana in the Citizen TV drama series Zora. “You have to call the companies and tell them you are pregnant without knowing whether they will retain or fire you. I felt I was going to lose all my income. It was hard.“
But after some time, she came to terms with the pregnancy, and she is currently in her final trimester, expecting to welcome their bundle of joy soon.
