‘PEOPLE THOUGHT I WAS GAY’ OGA OBINNA EXPLAINS WHY HE STOPPED PLAYING HIS DRAG QUEEN CHARACTER ABINNA
Popular Kenyan comedian and radio presenter Oga Obinna is definitely a multifaceted man with immense success in the entertainment industry. The Morning Kiss 100 host has an enviable career with a blended family, but you will never find him drinking alcohol to celebrate his accomplishments in life.
Speaking to Buzz Central, the father of four revealed that he chose a sober life to become a responsible dad. He said that alcohol is an expensive habit and could easily lead to failure in life when it turns into an addiction. However, he noted that he drinks when he is compensated.
“I drink when I am paid. I drink when it’s adding value. I don’t drink in a stupid way, only when it makes financial sense because my uncles were drunkards, and if I look at their families, they were really messed up because of the decision they made. The habit turns into an addiction, and it’s too expensive to fund it yet, I have children,” he said.
Obinna says he has managed to beat the temptations to drink alcohol as he spends most of her time with his family and at the gym. He says he works out to get well-defined abdominal muscles and an admirable body.
He also talked about his vlogging career on his YouTube channel Obinna TV. The humorist, known for his diversified array of content, disclosed why he took a break from making videos female characters Abinna and Auntie Wa Harrier. He pointed out that the cosmetics he applied to illustrate the acts affected his skin. Further, many people speculated that he had turned to homosexuality.
“I am still figuring out what to do with Abinna, the female version of Obinna, who was giving men the hard truth through comedy because comedy is a way to tell the truth and pass it through a very subtle way. At some point, the makeup started to react on my face, and I got pimples, but I was looking fine. Abinna was too hot. People started categorising me because I was also doing another female version of Auntie Wa Harrier. They started talking negatively, that I was gay.”
Obinna told off naysayers for criticising him and other content creators based on the content they produce. He affirmed that artists know their ultimate goal and the impact they want their art to have on society hence they shouldn’t be judged based on the characters they portray.
