ACTOR KEVIN SAMUEL ON MEETING HIS WIFE AND RELOCATING TO FRANCE

By  |

Popular actor Kevin Samuel known for his roles in Mali and Changes talked to Buzz Central about his personal life.

Kevin said he met his French wife Marie-Lina during an audition that they were casted as husband and wife, “When we auditioned, we paired with different people for different scenes. I did a scene with Mkamzee Mwatela, Mumbi Maina, Brenda Wairimu and Marie-Lina. The producer said, ‘I feel like you guys have chemistry. I think I should cast you two.’ But we were friends for the longest time before we decided to get into a relationship.

It’s funny now because when we talk about that, we feel like we have been together for a long time, especially when I was in France and I was going through this really hard time. What we needed to do was find a way back to being those people when we met. So that’s been really helpful for us. Because obviously if your partner is going through this suicidal, drug abusing moments, it’s also very difficult for you. It was really important for us to find that reconnection of us being those two people who met while shooting a TV series.”

Samuel says raising his daughter is one of his proudest moments, “We have a great kid, a girl, her name is Leone, and she’s turning five next month. It’s probably the proudest moments I’ve had are just with her and seeing her growing up.”

On why he chose to marry Marie-Lina, Samuel said, “She just felt like the person I could tell everything to, I know that that’s not a very romantic answer, but it’s truly just that.  She is my best friend, a person who I can tell everything to even the scary stuff and she can do the same. To this day, we are like that. She is the person I can share stuff with before I would even share it with my family.”

Kevin made the hard decision to relocate his family to France, something he never regrets, “It got to a point where I felt that she had been here for a very long time and I knew that her family had missed her, especially her mother. I remember when we finally moved back there. Her mother gave me this huge hug and said ‘thank you for bringing my daughter back’. I felt it was important for her to be back with her family.

She’d been here with my family for so long. I’m happy we made that decision. Because while it was a very difficult time for me, she flourished. She was able to find some work that she loved and she was able to reconnect with her sister and her nephews. When I look back, I always say we moved for a reason. Maybe for me it was to get to the worst of myself and to be able to get clean, whereas for her it was to reconnect with her family.”
