SELINA ACTOR HELEN KELI OPENS UP ABOUT LOSING HER DAD

By  |

Selina actress Helen Keli popularly known for her role Patricia Mackenzie, sat down with Buzz Central and talked about her personal life.

Helen revealed she lost her father David Keli, who worked for Voice of Kenya now KBC at age 8, “I was born in a family of creatives, which is not to say that we are all actors, musicians or artistes in the conventional sense but I think I get my creativity from my father David Keli. He was one of the veterans of  Voice of Kenya now KBC and even when I look at the books that he used to read. It’s a pity that he didn’t live long enough for us to have an intellectual type of relationship with himHe died when I was eight, it’s obviously life changing, life altering, things are not the same.”

She said she has had to fight for everything she has, “If you look at women my age who grew up with their fathers, and those women like us who lost their fathers when we were young. We are significantly different in the ways that we have relationships and ways that we fight for ourselves. I always tell people, I have fought tooth and nail for everything I have. Nobody has ever given me something on a silver platter. I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I worked hard. Sometimes I look back and I’m just like, What the hell was that? Why does everything have to be so hard? Then again, you know, it’s like if that happens, you wouldn’t cherish the things that you have.”

Though she pursued fashion and design in college, she decided not to do it as a profession, “I studied fashion design. I still medal a little bit in fashion. For me that’s something that never really took off. I have all the knowledge in my head and if you asked me to stitch for you an outfit right now I can do it, I can but I didn’t go with it because I liked the idea of designing but I don’t like the idea of doing it for my livelihood. It’s something I want to do without any pressure, I hate the rush.”
