SH60 MILLION ANNUALLY: ELSA MAJIMBO FEATURED ON FORBES TOP CREATORS LIST
Forbes has announced its first-ever Top Creators List, ranking 50 highest-earning and most influential social natives across TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Twitch and other social platforms.
Kenyan content creator Elsa Majimbo featured on the list at number 49. She announced the good news on her social media pages, “An undeniable success, purrrr!” She captioned the post. With a total of 3.8 million followers, the online comedian found fame during the Covid pandemic. Majimbo was among the first members of her family to go to college before dropping out to pursue comedy. She has partnerships with Maison Valentino, Bumble and Beats By Dre.
Forbes estimated that Majimbo makes (Sh60 million) $500,000 annually. Speaking to Forbes, she says it is a blessing, “Now we’re making good money and it’s great. It feels amazing being able to do what you want and having the choice and being able to help people. It’s a blessed position“.
Additionally she said her reasons for venturing into comedy was because she didn’t want to study, “when the first video went viral. I wasn’t even looking to have a career in entertainment and media, I just never wanted to go back to school, so I saw a loophole, it was something I could do so I got into it.”
The Top Creators list highlights the 50 social superstars leveraging a combined 1.9 billion followers across social networks to earn $570 million in 2021 alone. Their average age is just 31. Taking the top three spots were Jimmy Donaldson aka Mr Beast, Charli D’Amelio and Alexandra Cooper respectively.
She also gave reasons why she lost touch with her home country, Kenya, “I have a very complicated relationship with Nairobi. When things started going well for me there was a lot of backlash on me and just a lot of things were said towards me. Surprisingly, it was people from Kenya doing that; bullying me on the internet and they were hellbound on my failure. It was insane and absurd. The rest of the world was praying for me but Kenya was hoping for my downfall. So when I got the chance I packed my bags and left and I never looked back.”
