‘WE HAVE GIVEN CLOUT CHASERS A PLATFORM THEY DON’T DESERVE’ CIRU MURIUKI TELLS KENYANS
Kenyan media personality, Ciru Muriuki has faulted Kenyans for giving clout chasers a platform they don’t deserve. Taking to her socials, Ciru said there are many talented Kenyans but a few set the tone in the industry, “There are so many incredibly talented Kenyan artists spanning several genres; gengetone, hip hop, house, reggae. So many. But a few people have set the tone for this industry, the tone being screw talent, we will only rely on gimmicks. We have given clout chasers a platform they do not deserve.
Like now, we have spent a week talking about someone’s buttocks only to find out that all this was a gimmick to drum up publicity before releasing a (quite frankly, mediocre) song. A certain couple went quiet on their social media platforms, with the exception of a couple of cryptic posts that had their fans really worried about them, the boom a song was released.”
She challenged artistes to stop clout chasing, “We need to stop this nonsense. True talent speaks for itself. It doesn’t need a gimmick. When have you seen Sauti Sol playing stupid games on social media prior to releasing a new project? Nyashinski, Nikita Kering? Wakadinali?.”
Adding, “Forget that, have you even heard anything by Xenia Manasseh? Xtatic? Valerie Muthoni? Just a band is back. Did you know that? No, because our posts, the blogs, heck, even mainstream media have spent a week talking about butt implants. How disappointing“
