VETERAN JOURNALIST FAYYAZ QUREISHI REPLACES CATHERINE KASAVULI AS THE NEW ANCHOR OF LEGENDS EDITION
Veteran journalist Fayyaz Qureishi has replaced the late Catherine Kasavuli as the new anchor of Legends Edition. Fayyaz made his TV debut over the weekend.
Qureishi joined KTN in 1990 where he anchored news alongside Kasavuli for 14 years. Speaking during her requiem mass, he talked about his experience working with her for over a decade, “Its a difficult time, when I first heard the news I was in the UK. I woke up in the morning and I got the message on the phone that my very good friend, colleague and my favourite news anchor had passed away.
In 1990, I joined KTN six months after its inception and I remember when I set my eyes on Catherine Kasavuli for the first time. She was just this beautiful, stunning, elegant, dignified and gracious woman who was extremely welcoming and friendly. I was excited to see Catherine. I was a big fan of hers. The first two years I anchored on my own then me and Catherine were paired up for 14 years and what an amazing journey it was until when I left KTN in 2005 and moved to the UK.
I remember those sessions before the news and we would chit chat. She would always talk to me about my children and I would talk to her about Martin and she loved him dearly. The best part was when my friends would ask ‘How does it feel to sit next to Catherine?’ We had so much fun, she had a great sense of humour. She was possibly the best news anchor that ever graced the Kenyan screens.”
