‘WE ARE NOT BREAKING UP’ SAUTI SOL CLARIFY
Celebrated Kenyan band Sauti Sol, has shut down claims that they are breaking up.
Speaking at a press conference, the band said they will be taking a short break from music, “It’s been an amazing journey so far, it’s been 15 years in the business. It’s gotten to a point where we need to step back a bit, we are not quitting music or breaking up. The statement that we put out was very clear but there were a lot of interpretations from all our fans but it’s just a small hiatus.” Said the guitarist Polycarp Otieno.
Singer Savara Mudigi added, “All the businesses will still be running like the record label and Sol Kids. We are actually looking for new talent. We have scouts all over searching so we are going to announce more talent soon.”
On May 20 this year, the band announced that they will be taking an indefinite break from working as a group. The band insisted they will remain friends as they embark on their personal projects, “While the indefinite hiatus marks the end of a specific chapter, it also represents a new beginning for Sauti Sol. As close friends and business partners, the band members, Bien Baraza, Willis Chimano, Polycarp Otieno and Savara Mudigi are eager to explore fresh creative avenues and embark on personal endeavours.”
Sauti Sol also thanked their fans for their support all through the years, “We are filled with gratitude for the love and support we have received throughout the years. While we take this hiatus to pursue our individual and collective passions, we remain committed to our friendship and our shared businesses. The bond between us is unbreakable and we are excited for what the future holds.”
