LUPITA NYONG’O AMONG HOLLYWOOD ACTORS ON STRIKE

Award winning actor Lupita Nyong’o is among 65,000 Hollywood actors currently on strike.

According to the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), the actors are asking studios for higher pay and to tighten regulation on the use of artificial intelligence in creative projects.

The actors want an 11 percent raise to baseline rates this year and an 8 percent raise over the next two years to make up for the inflation of the last two years. The studios have countered with an offer of 5 percent this year and 7.5 percent in the next two years, according to SAG-AFTRA.. 

“We didn’t want to strike, but now is the time to take action. Inspired, fired up and united on the picket line with my fellow actors and writers this week. I know we stand on the right side of history for a more fair, secure and dignified livelihood for the many. #SAGAFTRAStrong #WGAStrong,” said Lupita.

The actors also want strong protections against their likenesses being used to train artificial intelligence, and reassurance that they won’t be replaced by A.I.
