‘I WAS SEXUALLY ABUSED AS A CHILD’ CYNTHIA NYAMAI OPENS UP

By  |

Celebrated TV personality Cynthia Nyamai has revealed she was a victim of childhood sexual abuse.

Speaking in an interview with with Lynne Ngugi, Nyamai decided to break her silence, not only for her own healing journey but also to provide a voice to countless others who may have suffered in silence. ”One day I was making my bed and I felt a sharp pain on my back and I remembered a memory of a man molesting me when I was young and it was the most painful memory. Even now that I have forgiven him, he has never apologised but I forgave him.”

She added, “Molestation is the worst thing you can go through because I was so young and helpless. This was someone who was meant to protect me and they took advantage of my innocence. You are watching someone doing something and there is nothing you can do about it and unfortunately the small me froze.”

The TV presenter also said after the incident, things changed and she started hating men, “As much as the memory was forgotten there are things in me just changed and I started having hate for men and I tell my mother, ‘me I’m not going to marry, what do I need a man for?’ Even when I reported the matter, a woman told me it was a lie. I should never repeat it and they went and told the abuser.

After that I forgot and the doors in my life were opened, I carried bitterness in my life and I wanted to prove men wrong. Where I couldn’t fight for myself  every man was going to pay for that day. So many people paid, my was to prove what a man  can do a woman can do better.”
